Corona-virus

Corona-viruses, the family of viruses or cause of illness which is vary from the common cold to many grievous diseases such as MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome respectively.

Corona-virus serious disease is a new strain or stress, which was discovered in the year 2019 and has not been identified previously in humans.

Corona-viruses are zoonotic, which means they are transmitted between people and animal. Extensive investigations found that Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) was transmitted from dromedary camels to humans and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV) from civet cats to humans. Several known corona-viruses are circulating in animals and also infected humans.

Common signs of infection comprise of breathing difficulties, fever, shortness of breath, cough and respiratory symptoms. In more grievous cases, it may cause severe acute respiratory syndrome, pneumonia, kidney failure and also death.

Standard recommendations to prevent corona spread include covering mouth and nose when coughing & sneezing, hand wash regularly, avoid cooking meat and eggs. Also avoid close contact with every person showing symptoms of respiratory illness namely coughing and sneezing.

Some important protective measures against the corona-virus

Frequently wash your hands

Thoroughly and regularly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or wash them with water and soap.

Using alcohol-based hand sanitizer and washing your hands with soap and water kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain social distancing

The persons need to maintain at least 3 feet (1 metre) distance between yourself and the person who is coughing & sneezing.
Why?
When a person coughs or sneezes they spread small liquid droplets from their mouth or nose which contain virus. If you are close to someone, you can breathe in the droplets, including the corona virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Try to avoid to touch your eyes, mouth and nose

Why?
Our hands touch several surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your mouth, nose or eyes. And then, the virus can enter your body and make you infected or sick.

Practice respiratory hygiene

Make sure the people around you, maintaining good respiratory hygiene. This means cover your mouth and nose with tissue or with your bent elbow when you cough or sneeze.

Droplets from mouth or nose spread virus. After following good respiratory hygiene you can easily protect the person around you from viruses namely cold, flu and corona.
