He hiccuped over 435 million times before stopping. He died in 1991, 11 months after his hiccups ended.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1923<\/strong> &#8211; The French set a trade barrier between the occupied Ruhr and the rest of Germany.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1927<\/strong> &#8211; Charles Lindbergh was honored with a ticker-tape parade in New York City.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1927<\/strong> &#8211; For the first time, an American Flag was displayed from the right hand of the Statue of Liberty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1940<\/strong> &#8211; Paris was evacuated before the German advance on the city.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1943<\/strong> &#8211; German spies landed on Long Island, New York. They were soon captured.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1944<\/strong> &#8211; Germany launched 10 of its new V1 rockets against Britain from a position near the Channel coast. Of the 10 rockets only 5 landed in Britain and only one managed to kill (6 people in London).<\/p>\n<p><strong>1944<\/strong> &#8211; Marvin Camras patented the wire recorder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1949<\/strong> &#8211; Bao Dai entered Saigon to rule Vietnam. He had been installed by the French.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1951<\/strong> &#8211; U.N. troops seized Pyongyang, North Korea.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1966<\/strong> &#8211; The landmark &#8220;Miranda v. Arizona&#8221; decision was issued by the U.S. Supreme Court. The decision <strong>ruled<\/strong> that criminal suspects had to be informed of their constitutional rights before being questioned by police.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1967<\/strong> &#8211; Solicitor General Thurgood Marshall was nominated by\u00a0President Lyndon B. Johnson\u00a0to become the first black justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1971<\/strong> &#8211; The New York Times began publishing the &#8220;Pentagon Papers&#8221;. The articles were a secret study of America&#8217;s involvement in Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1978<\/strong> &#8211; Israelis withdrew the last of their invading forces from Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1979<\/strong> &#8211; Sioux Indians were awarded $105 million in compensation for the U.S. seizure in 1877 of their Black Hills in South Dakota.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1983<\/strong> &#8211; The unmanned U.S. space probe\u00a0<i>Pioneer 10<\/i>\u00a0became the first spacecraft to leave the solar system. It was launched in March 1972. The first up-close images of the planet Jupiter were provided by\u00a0<i>Pioneer 10<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1988<\/strong> &#8211; The Liggett Group, a cigarette manufacturer, was found liable for a lung-cancer death. They were, however, found innocent by the federal jury of misrepresenting the risks of smoking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1989<\/strong> &#8211; The Detroit Pistons won their first National Basketball Association title. They beat the L.A. Lakers in four games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1989<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0U.S. President George H.W. Bush\u00a0exercised his first Presidential veto on a bill dealing with minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1992<\/strong> &#8211; Future\u00a0U.S. President Bill Clinton\u00a0criticized rap singer Sister Souljah for making remarks &#8220;filled with hatred&#8221; towards whites.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994<\/strong> &#8211; A jury in Anchorage, Alaska, found Exxon Corp. and Captain Joseph Hazelwood to be reckless in the\u00a0<i>Exxon Valdez<\/i>\u00a0oil spill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1995<\/strong> &#8211; France announced that they would conduct eight more nuclear tests in the South Pacific.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2000<\/strong> &#8211; In Pyongyang, North Korea&#8217;s leader Kim Jong Il welcomed South Korea&#8217;s President Kim Dae for a three-day summit. It was the first such meeting between the leaders of North and South Korea.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2002<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The United States withdraws from the\u00a0Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2007<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The\u00a0Al-Askari Mosque\u00a0is\u00a0bombed for a second time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2010<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A capsule of the Japanese spacecraft\u00a0<i>Hayabusa<\/i>, containing particles of the asteroid\u00a025143 Itokawa, returns to Earth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2012<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A\u00a0series of bombings\u00a0across\u00a0Iraq, including\u00a0Baghdad,\u00a0Hillah, and\u00a0Kirkuk, kills at least 93 people and wounds over 300 others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2015<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A man\u00a0opens fire\u00a0at policemen outside the\u00a0police headquarters in Dallas, Texas, while a bag containing a\u00a0pipe bomb\u00a0is also found.
