It was an American\u00a0plan to help Germany pay off its war debts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1925<\/strong> &#8211; Chrysler Corporation was founded by Walter Percy Chrysler.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1932<\/strong> &#8211; In the\u00a0U.S., the first federal tax on gasoline went into effect. It was a penny per gallon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1933<\/strong> &#8211; In Camden,\u00a0NJ, the first drive-in movie theater opened.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1934<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt\u00a0signed the Securities Exchange Act, which established the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).<\/p>\n<p><strong>1936<\/strong> &#8211; The first helicopter was tested in a building in Berlin, Germany.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1941<\/strong> &#8211; The\u00a0U.S.\u00a0government authorized the seizure of foreign ships in\u00a0U.S.\u00a0ports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1942<\/strong> &#8211; The first nylon parachute jump was made by Adeline Gray in Hartford,\u00a0CT.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1942<\/strong> &#8211; Japanese forces retreated in the World War II Battle of Midway. The battle had begun on June 4.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1944<\/strong> &#8211; The D-Day invasion of Europe took place on the beaches of Normandy, France. 400,000 Allied American, British and Canadian troops were involved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1946<\/strong> &#8211; The\u00a0Basketball Association of America\u00a0was formed in New York City,\u00a0NY.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1968<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy died at 1:44 am in Los Angeles after being shot by Sirhan Sirhan. Kennedy was shot the evening before while campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1971<\/strong> &#8211; &#8220;The Ed Sullivan Show&#8221; aired for the last time. It was canceled after 23 years on the air. Gladys Knight and the Pips were the musical guests on the show.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1978<\/strong> &#8211; &#8220;20\/20&#8221; debuted on ABC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1982<\/strong> &#8211; Israel invaded southern Lebanon in an effort to drive PLO guerrillas out of Beirut.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1985<\/strong> &#8211; The body of Nazi war criminal Dr. Josef Mengele was located and exhumed near Sao Paolo, Brazil. Mengele was known as the &#8220;Angel of Death.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1985<\/strong> &#8211; The U.S. Senate authorized nonmilitary aid to the Contras. The vote authorized $38 million over two years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993<\/strong> &#8211; Mongolia held its first direct presidential elections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2005<\/strong> &#8211; The United States Supreme Court ruled that federal authorities could prosecute sick people who smoke marijuana on doctor&#8217;s orders.
