1910<\/strong> – Glacier National Park in\u00a0Montana\u00a0was established.<\/p>\n

1927<\/strong> – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was founded.<\/p>\n

1934<\/strong> – A severe two-day dust storm stripped the topsoil from the great plains of the U.S. and created a “Dust Bowl.” The storm was one of many.<\/p>\n

1944<\/strong> – A major offensive was launched by the allied forces in central Italy.<\/p>\n

1947<\/strong> – The creation of the tubeless tire was announced by the B.F. Goodrich Company.<\/p>\n

1949<\/strong> – Siam changed its name to Thailand.<\/p>\n

1960<\/strong> – Israeli soldiers captured Adolf Eichmann in Buenos Aires.<\/p>\n

1967<\/strong> – The siege of Khe Sanh ended.<\/p>\n

1995<\/strong> – The Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty was extended indefinitely. The treaty limited the spread of nuclear material for military purposes.<\/p>\n

1997<\/strong> – Garry Kasparov, world chess champion, lost his first ever multi-game match. He lost to IBM’s chess computer Deep Blue. It was the first time a computer had beaten a world-champion player.<\/p>\n

1998<\/strong> – India conducted its first underground nuclear tests, three of them, in 24 years. The tests were in violation of a global ban on nuclear testing.<\/p>\n

1998<\/strong> – A French mint produced the first coins of Europe’s single currency. The coin is known as the euro.<\/p>\n

2000<\/strong> – India’s population officially reached 1 billion.<\/p>\n

2001<\/strong> – U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft announced his decision to approve a 30-day delay of the execution of convicted Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. McVeigh had been scheduled to be executed on May 16, 2001. The delay was because the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had failed to disclose thousands of documents to McVeigh’s defense team.<\/p>\n

2011<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 An\u00a0Earthquake of magnitude 5.1\u00a0hits Spain.<\/p>\n

2013<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Fifty-two people are killed in a\u00a0bombing in Reyhanl\u0131, Turkey.<\/p>\n

2014<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Fifteen people are killed and 46 injured in Kinshasa in a\u00a0stampede\u00a0caused by tear gas being thrown into soccer stands by police officers attempting to defuse a hostile incident.<\/p>\n

2016<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 More than 120 people are killed\u00a0in an ISIL bombing in Baghdad.<\/p>\n
