1915<\/strong> – Former\u00a0U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt\u00a0criticized\u00a0U.S.\u00a0citizens who identified themselves by dual nationalities.<\/p>\n

1920<\/strong> – Construction of the Holland Tunnel began. It opened on November 13, 1927. The tunnel links Jersey City,\u00a0NJ\u00a0and New York City,\u00a0NY.<\/p>\n

1933<\/strong> – The\u00a0U.S.\u00a0Department of Justice acquired Alcatraz Island from the\u00a0U.S.\u00a0Army.<\/p>\n

1937<\/strong> – “Mr. Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons” debuted on radio.<\/p>\n

1938<\/strong> – Production began on “The Wizard of Oz.”<\/p>\n

1942<\/strong> – During World War II, Attorney General Francis Biddle announced that Italian nationals in the\u00a0United States\u00a0would no longer be considered enemy aliens.<\/p>\n

1945<\/strong> – Private First Class Desmond T. Doss was presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor for outstanding bravery as a medical corpsman. He was the first conscientious objector in American history to win the award.<\/p>\n

1960<\/strong> – Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev pounded a shoe on his desk during a dispute at a U.N. General Assembly.<\/p>\n

1961<\/strong> – The first video memoirs by a\u00a0U.S.\u00a0president were made. Walter Cronkite interviewed Dwight D. Eisenhower.<\/p>\n

1964<\/strong> – The Soviet Union launched\u00a0Voskhod 1<\/i> into orbit around the Earth. It was the first space flight to have a multi-person crew and the first flight to be performed without spacesuits.<\/p>\n

1972<\/strong> – During the Vietnam War, a racial brawl broke out aboard the\u00a0U.S.\u00a0aircraft carrier\u00a0Kitty Hawk<\/i>. Nearly 50 sailors were injured.<\/p>\n

1976<\/strong> – China announced that Hua Guofeng was named to succeed the late Mao Tse-tung as chairman of the Communist Party.<\/p>\n

1988<\/strong> – Federal prosecutors announced that the Sundstrand Corp. would pay $115 million dollars to settle with the Pentagon for overbilling airplane parts over a five-year period.<\/p>\n

1989<\/strong> – The\u00a0U.S.\u00a0House of Representatives approved a statutory federal ban on the destruction of the American flag.<\/p>\n

1993<\/strong> – The play “Mixed Emotions” opened at the John Golden Theatre.<\/p>\n

1994<\/strong> – Haitian military leader Raoul Cedras was granted political asylum by Panama.<\/p>\n

1994<\/strong> – The\u00a0Magellan<\/i>\u00a0space probe ended its four-year mission to Venus for the purpose of mapping.<\/p>\n

1997<\/strong> – The St. Francis Basilica and 15th-century bell tower above Foligno city hall in Italy were damaged by 3 earthquakes.<\/p>\n

1998<\/strong> – The\u00a0U.S.\u00a0House of Representatives passed the Online Copyright Bill.<\/p>\n

1999<\/strong> – Rob Reiner received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.<\/p>\n

1999<\/strong> – In Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf seized power in a bloodless coup that toppled Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The Supreme Court ruled that the coup was legal but insisted that a civilian government be restored within three years.<\/p>\n

2001<\/strong> – A special episode of America’s Most Wanted was aired that focused on 22 wanted terrorists. The show was specifically requested by\u00a0U.S. President George W. Bush.<\/p>\n

2006<\/strong> – The Dow Jones industrial average advanced over 11,900 for the first time.<\/p>\n

2015<\/strong> – It was announced that Dell was buying EMC for around $67 billion.<\/p>\n

2017<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The United States announces its decision to withdraw from\u00a0UNESCO\u00a0and is immediately followed by Israel.<\/p>\n

2018<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Princess Eugenie\u00a0marries\u00a0Jack Brooksbank\u00a0at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n

2019<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Typhoon Hagibis makes landfall in Japan, killing 10 and forcing the evacuation of 1,000,000 people.<\/sup><\/p>\n

2019<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0Eliud Kipchoge\u00a0from Kenya becomes the first person to run a\u00a0marathon\u00a0in\u00a0less than two hours\u00a0with a time of 1:59:40 in Vienna.<\/sup><\/p>\n
