Barnum was damaged by smoke and water.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1971<\/strong> &#8211; Harmon Killebrew (Minnesota Twins) got his 500th and 501st home runs of his\u00a0major league baseball\u00a0career.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1973<\/strong> &#8211; Arnold Palmer did not make the cut for the final two rounds of the PGA Golf Championship. It was the first time in his career.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1981<\/strong> &#8211; Pete Rose hit a single and broke the National League all-time hit record with his 3,631 hits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1988<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0U.S. President Reagan\u00a0signed a measure that provided $20,000 payments to Japanese-Americans who were interned by the\u00a0U.S.\u00a0government during World War II.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993<\/strong> &#8211; A massive deficit-reduction bill was signed into law by\u00a0U.S.\u00a0President Bill Clinton.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0U.S. President Clinton\u00a0claimed presidential immunity when he asked a federal judge to dismiss, at least for the time being, a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by Paula Corbin Jones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1995<\/strong> &#8211; Norma McCorvey, &#8220;Jane Roe&#8221; of the 1973\u00a0U.S.\u00a0Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, announced that she had joined the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1999<\/strong> &#8211; Near an India-Pakistan border area an Indian fighter jet shot down a Pakistani naval aircraft. Sixteen people were killed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2003<\/strong> &#8211; Ekaterina Dmitriev and Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko were married. Malenchenko was about 240 miles above the earth in the international space station. It was the first-ever marriage from space.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2009<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Twenty people are killed in\u00a0Handlov\u00e1,\u00a0Trencin Region, in the deadliest\u00a0mining disaster\u00a0in\u00a0Slovakia&#8217;s history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2012<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The\u00a0Marikana massacre\u00a0begins near\u00a0Rustenburg, South Africa, resulting in the deaths of 47 people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2014<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Forty people are killed when\u00a0Sepahan Airlines Flight 5915\u00a0crashes at Tehran&#8217;s\u00a0Mehrabad Airport.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2018<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A\u00a0shooting\u00a0occurs in\u00a0Fredericton,\u00a0New Brunswick, killing four people, including two police officers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2018<\/strong> \u2013 A\u00a0Horizon Airlines\u00a0Bombardier Q400\u00a0crashes\u00a0on\u00a0Ketron Island, Washington\u00a0after being stolen by a mechanic.\u00a0Oregon National Guard\u00a0F-15\u00a0fighter jets intercepted the plane, but the pilot deliberately crashed before they could shoot it down.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2018<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0anti-government protest\u00a0takes place in\u00a0Victory Square, in\u00a0Bucharest,\u00a0Romania.
